Small steps, real difference

Most parents we talk to want to be more present in their child's school life but assume it means joining a committee or giving up a Saturday. It doesn't have to. This term, try just turning up to one event you'd normally skip. Even twenty minutes at the school gate chatting to another parent can open a door you didn't know was there.

Another easy one is asking your child's teacher what's actually useful, rather than guessing. Teachers usually have a clear idea of what would help, whether that's an extra pair of hands on a trip or someone to read with a small group once a fortnight. It's rarely as big an ask as parents assume.

Local events, including the ones we run through Schoolmix, are another low pressure way in. You meet other families, your child gets to try something new, and there's no expectation beyond showing up and joining in.

None of this requires a big commitment. It's mostly about noticing the small opportunities that are already there and taking one of them.
